Grandparents raising grandchildren have plenty to do without fretting over tax returns. But there is a very good reason to not procrastinate:  you may be eligible for up to $6,000 in tax refunds by claiming the Earned Income Tax credit. Fortunately, folks out there are ready to help you…for free.

Many of services welcome walk-ins, but you will probably save time by calling ahead to schedule a visit. Also, hours are limited. In other words, don’t wait until April 12 to get started!

Here are two great resources for finding free tax assistance.

This AARP site will show you a map. You enter your zip code and the map updates to show you locations where you can meet advisers near you.

https://cashoregon.org/

This website is slightly more challenging to navigate, and the other hand, it can help you find non-English language help from Korean to Vietnamese.  You can also get directions.

You will probably need to bring Social Security numbers, W-2s, last year’s tax return if available, 1099s you got from financial institutions and child and dependent care information.
